If you're planning on staying put in one location with your tiny home on wheels (THOW) for a while, it's important to make sure your home is properly leveled. Luckily, our friends at Incredible Tiny Homes have put together a super helpful video on the subject. Check it out, below!
In addition to the video, we've gathered some other great information to help you make sure your THOW is level and stable during your extended stay. By using these resources, you can feel confident that your tiny home will be safe and secure no matter where you decide to park it.
Jack the home up: Use a set of jacks, such as car or house jacks, to place blocks or other sturdy supports under the THOW. Be sure to add a wide cement block under the jacks to prevent them from sinking into the ground. Scissor jacks, most commonly on THOWs, are meant to stabilize the THOW, not hold the full weight of the THOW.
Adjust the blocking: If the home is on blocks, highly suggested, you can adjust the blocking to re-level the home. Make sure to use levelers and check for level in multiple directions (lengthwise and widthwise) to ensure that the home is completely level.
Move the home: If the blocking or jacks are not successful in leveling the home, you may need to move the home to a different location on the property. Make sure to check the ground for any slopes or uneven areas and try to position the home on a more level spot.
Check the tires and Axles: Make sure that the tires are in good condition and have the right air pressure. Also check the axles and suspension to see if anything needs to be repaired or replaced.
Contact the manufacturer: If you cannot level the home or are unsure about how to do it safely, it is best to contact the manufacturer of your home or a professional contractor with experience working on tiny homes on wheels. They should be able to provide guidance and assistance in getting your home level again.
It's important to remember that your THOW may be shifting again, over time, due to various reasons such as heavy load on one side, uneven ground, or shifting of the supporting blocks. It's always a good idea to periodically check the levelness of your home, especially after heavy rains, to ensure everything is safe and secure.
Happy leveling Tiny Dwellers!
